Men's A vs Harlequins A
On what can only be described as an Indian summer's day at the NSC, the Men’s A team under the whiteboard tutelage of Captain Margot began the new season against newly promoted Harlequins. Team moral was high and Will’s gameplan of a half court press was digested by the team before the start then duly ignored. Fortunately the goals came thick and fast. New team member’s Craig Morris and Ollie Webster fitted in nicely as though they had been playing for the Valk’s for years and with the return of The Moy in defence we looked comfortable at the back. Harlequin’s were not great it had to be said and kindly refused to mark any of us the whole game which allowed us to move the ball around well.
Valkyrs came out 12-1 winners by the end of the game. The one goal for Quins due to a hopeful call from Colley in acres of space on the right and Greg "Gunner" Miller attempting a 50m aerial that went horribly wrong…around 10m to a Quins player who took his chance well. All in all a fine and encouraging performance by all involved. The fact we only had 11 players due to holidays and other commitments will need to be addressed for the first string side, as against better opposition we will need to rotate players if we are to get the best out of them. A good and solid start to the season though and a good goal base to build from. Well done chaps. Report by Jules Colley
